Ebb & Flow: exploring the shore on Friday 1 June

Friday 1st June will be a shore spectacular in and around Hoy Kirk. With afternoon beach workshops led by artist Fiona Sanderson and naturalist Alison Nimmo who will be rock pooling and limpet casting and finding and naming shore species. All ages welcome. From 2:30pm around the rocks at Moaness and the sands at Linkness. Simulatneously Fergus the Forager will be raiding the larder of the shore around Moaness. Join him to explore the edible shore.

Later in the afternoon from 4:30 to 6pm writer Alice Albinia will be leading a writing workshop along the shore and at the Dwarfie Stone.To find out more call 07812807848.

And in the evening at Hoy Kirk we will be bringing the sea inside with a film on the secret life of limpets introduced by Fiona and Alison; Fergus will share his foraging thoughts on Orkney’s wild food; and Rebecca Marr will be showing how ten seaweeds reveal a social history of Orkney that includes food, fodder, folklore, finance and fertiliser.

Sea washed music from local musicians and seaweed soup and seaweed chocolate to complete the flavour of the day. Free and all welcome. Hoy Kirk would like to thank Alice Albinia for her adventurous programme. The events are supported by the Island of Hoy Development Trust.
