Beginner/Intermediate Orkney Fiddle Workshop with Jennifer Wrigley – open to all ages. Absolute beginners welcome to take part/listen. Players of instruments other than fiddle also welcome if of an intermediate level of ability.

All welcome to this fun and relaxed workshop focussing on traditional fiddle. This fiddle workshop is open to fiddlers of all levels (beginning to advanced). We will start with a brief overview of fiddling, its stylistic elements, and its history with musical examples. The group will work through Jennifer’s version of ‘Jimmy o’ the Bu’s Polka’ going over specific ornamentation and additional techniques.

Music will be provided if needed – please bring your own music stand if required. If there is time left over at the end of the workshop we will hold an informal open question and answer session about the music.

Come and immerse yourself in the music with like-minded fiddlers and musicians!

POSTPONED TO 2027 Orkney International Science Festival. Free. Join us for a light supper followed by a screening of Selena S. Kuzman’s film showing the island landforms, from the glens and hillsides to the ancient wood of Berriedale.

“These are true glens, cut by glaciers,” explains the narrator, geologist Dr Adrian Hall. “When the last ice sheet parted, briefly there were glacial lakes. Then there was a thousand years of cold, with much snow blowing off the hills, and glaciers reformed at the Dwarfie Hamars.”
