FRIDAY 9 SEPT 2016 anytime around 11am…Coffee morning at Hoy Kirk Heritage Centre. A chance to meet Sophie and hear about her fascinating global project that now centres on Hoy – see below. All welcome. This project has encouraged us to think about a ‘Healthcare in Hoy’ part of the archive including recollections of doctors and nurses in Hoy, what people did about dentalcare, how emergencies were dealt with, what folk-medicines were used in the past, what to do if an eagle steals your baby and takes it to its nest (this is part of the rich folklore of the island).

We are currently looking for baby photographs of those born in Hoy in the 1950s and the 1960s..why?..well in the Hoy Kirk we have the very basket that those babies were weighed in and we want to fill it with those photographs. Contact us here.
